The Beginning

I started to care about green living in a gradual way. Rewind to just a few years ago, and I didn't know much about where my food came from, or how it was processed, or what chemicals I used to clean my house. I didn't care because I didn't know I had a reason to.

It started slow, and completely unintentionally. I've always suffered from gastro-intestinal issues, and I haven't been a particularly thin girl since puberty, so I subscribed to Eat This! Not That! thinking that this "no diet, diet" could lead me to a better, healthier, life. I didn't set out to start eating organic, or to stop eating processed foods, or anything like that. I just wanted a few tips and tricks on losing weight, and eating healthier. Slowly, through the newsletters with headings such as "8 Foods You Should Eat Everyday" or "The 14 'Health' Foods that Aren't", I started to learn about trans fats, the dangers of artificial ingredients, and the chemicals used in processing foods that aren't organic. Slowly, I started changing my life one facet at a time. I didn't set out trying to "eat green" or "cruelty-free" or anything like that, and I still don't think I fall into one category or another. I'm just trying to change my lifestyle for the better - one step at a time.

This blog is intended to document my journey to what I call "green living." Slowly, because that is how lasting changes are made, I am trying to affect change in one area of my life at a time. One category at a time, one product at a time - with the ending goal being that I will live a greener, healthier existence.

I am not a doctor, or a nutritionist, or an expert in any of these areas. This blog is simply meant to share information as I learn it, and it is a learning process. Please respect the journey, and offer helpful comments or criticism along the way. So that we may all learn, and grow [green], together. :-)
